The Amish observe Christmas as part of the religion. When I was a kid, my favorite time of year was Christmas because then I’d get candy and presents. Giving and getting gifts is part of my family’s tradition, but not all Amish families do this. Most of the time, the presents were useful items––things that we needed or would be able to use in the future.

Christmas was the one time of year when I could expect to get lots of candy from my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, and friends. I would also hang candy canes on the knobs of furniture in my room for decoration.

The short video below is set to an audio narration of a scene I wrote about my first memory of Christmas at 6 years old.

4 Reasons to Help Amish kids go to school past the 8th grade

During this season of giving (and throughout the next year), I’d love it if you’d consider purchasing from the Amish Heritage Foundation’s official merchandise store at www.AmishHeritage.org/shop. There are mugs, masks, hoodies, tees, tanks, and even long sleeve tops for winter (youth and adult sizes both).

  • 100% of profits go to empower Amish women and children through education.
  • It’s an easy way to support AHF and every dollar is truly valued.
  • The requests for help from Amish are far greater than funds available and your order might help make a child safer this holiday season.
  • Thank you in advance for purchasing and sharing the link.

To education and happy holidays,
